Filetopia Fx - Catch Up - aka "Things Never Go To Plan ; )" Gumboot - 18 Febuary 2016
Well where to start? There's been a massive amount of development since I last posted here (long story), but I will try my best to point out the larger more interesting changes since I last posted.
I couldn't possibly cover all changes so please consider this my sad attempt to catch up : ) it will be covering some but no where near all changes from the end of the alpha stage up to build (809) with emphasis on recent changes that have really started to make the client something impressive. It wont do the countless improvements to the client justice but perhaps if you haven't been following development for some time this will be a chance to catch up : ).

Interface:
There has been a number of noticeable changes to the layout of the main window and interface in general, most of which where to improve usability
- Notification system has been worked on intensively and now shows more information and generally performs much better than in the past
- Notifications and the home button now reside side by side in the top left corner, this will hopefully improve the visibility of both
- An optional "Minimal Layout" has been added and is in place by default which replaces the logo used previously with a hover activated drop down menu which replaces the old menu found originally in the top right of the app. Screen Shot
- Help buttons can now be seen through-out the interface and will take you to the relevant help topic , The help documentation itself has also been improved upon and has become more robust. Linking to help topics in chat is now also possible
- The Home sidebar has become much more robust and now shows all windows/tabs
- Almost every imaginable tab and sidebar can now be floated Screen Shot
- Tabs have been fine tuned and are handled much better than before
- There are currently over 12 publicly available graphic themes and a handful in development limbo, each new theme has been a technical improvement over the last and I think only look better and better Screen Shot
- Themes can now be loaded dynamically without the need to restart the client (I cant tell you how much this helps in the development of themes)
- The use of multilayering raster based images in themes and the appearance of "Hybrid" themes which are partially web based is note worthy if your interested in themeing as I am, but time will tell if hybrid themes make it beyond the beta (they can be a little slow to load up initially if your net isn't up to it)
* click the thumbnails to see the full images

Index:
Index's are possibly the largest change to the file$harring aspect of Filetopia FX since the Alpha releases (at least from the users viewpoint), they are found in each room (with some exceptions I believe) and list every file list available inside the room and make them all easily browsable within the one window. If this was not enough you can also browse every list available in every room you have joined within the one window (via the main menu). This feature works incredibly well and makes finding that troublesome file a lot easier.
- The order in which the file lists are displayed inside the index is calculated using a points system , to put it most simply the best list should be displayed at the top of the index, factors include the number of files, keywords used (we will get to those shortly), checksum being used or not etc.. ect.
* click the thumbnail to see the full image

File Lists:
File lists have improved notably in a few ways since the beginning of the beta builds
- File lists now have descriptions, both in the case of a Cached list or a dynamic list
- File lists now have tags, tags can help you narrow down the lists that most interest you, both inside an index and inside a multi-list (read on) Screen Shot
- Multi Lists now exist, these simply put are file lists that link to other file lists, they are useful when you want to share more than one list in a room and also possibly most importantly when your collection is simply to large (file number not file size) to be held on one list efficiently. Screen Shot
* click the thumbnails to see the full images

Voice Chat:
I know what your thinking if youve been a user of Prevoius versions of Filetopia : ) it didn't work to well in Filetopia 3 right? well this actually works very well and is a huge improvement over what there was in the past
- Audio quality is very reasonable and can be improved on under the right conditions if its something you cant live without : ) (see the help file for a full explanation).
- While this feature is already a vast improvement over the past I believe it will be improved and expanded upon over future builds as its only been very recently introduced.

Profiles:
There are now user profiles with a fully editable "about" section that works in much the same way as a rooms welcome message does
- A guest book is included
- User ratings are available
- It also introduces Karma points which is an interesting idea and is calculated using a weighted mix of time spent online, files served, ratings etc..
* click the thumbnails to see the full images

Well : ) I think that's it : ) there's lots I've left out but those are the important and impressive parts as I see them : ) If you haven't checked out the client since its early days please do, its improved beyond words : )

Website - My Apologies Gumboot - 27 July 2014
Id like to apologise, due to a number of things both Filetopia related and personal its been a very long time since ive posted an update but this should change shortly if things go to plan ; )

Filetopia Fx - Alpha 5 Gumboot - 2 December 2013
For those that are involved in testing during this alpha stage please be informed that the fifth alpha has been released and is ready for testing. Also note that the more notable oversights at the point of release have now been taken care of : )
The most notable changes are as follows: (these are areas that will need more attention when testing)

- Notifications - notifications are now fully operational and looking pretty good : ) but they will get furher tweaks before the beta
- List exchange and downloads from lists - both the lists and file transfers seem to be working very well but do feel free to test these as much as possible : )
- Room searches with folder downloads - room searches at this time are seen in the room by all users , i personally like this feature and hope it will stay and encourage more social sharing
- Friends protocols and Contact window menus - isnt complete just yet (things like setting away arr not in place yet) but there are new features to check
- Application tray Icon (basic for now) - not much to this just yet but presumably will reflect status, alerts etc. as time goes on
- Sound command and hardcoded system sounds - these seem to work well : )

While we can not have a perfect beta release (its just impossible) we are now at the point were the smaller details do matter and need to be brought to our attention : ) so please check everything, report even the smallest of issues : )

Filetopia Fx - Alpha 4 Gumboot - 22 October 2013
For those that are involved in the testing of this new alpha there has been far to many changes, fixes and new features for me to list here so please keep a close eye on the bugtracker to get a full picture of the changes in each release.

For those of you who are following the progress of the new client the most noteable changes are as follows:

- File send option from inside chat (actions - send file, its early days but Very good speeds seem possible so far)
- Server transfers window (F9) with all the features you would expect including a speed graph
- Greatly improved connectivity (uPNP and PMP now in use). Your connection health is now displayed in the status bar (bottom right) in the form of some text and a green or red icon
- Portable Mode is now operational (and at this time seems the most trouble free option during install)
- Colored Tabs are now being used throughout the interface (works well and looks great)
- Greatly improved and secure handling of pasted html content in chats (pasted urls etc., find and speak to me about this for testing)
- Walls are now also detachable (Actions - Float window), before this only chats were detachable
- Walls and chats now share a common setting for font re-sizeing (can be set in both chats and walls)
- Window size and location is now persistent
CSS Style CSS Style
There has been a massive amount of time and energy put into this release. A large amount of fixes and changes have been put in place, as well as an impressive amount of new features. Because of this i think i should remind everyone that this is Alpha software and some things simply wont work : ). This is why for the time being the new client is only made available for testing.

Website - Fully Rewritten Gumboot - 01 October 2013
This little website has been given a full rewrite (i was bored between alphas) and now should load faster while hopefully looking abit better : )
Also I've added support for persistent user selectable styling which is kinda cool : ).
CSS Style CSS Style CSS Style
Feel free to give them a try, there available via the buttons in the top right corner: Style 5 Style 2 and also via the Styles page

Filetopia Fx - Alpha 3 Gumboot - 28 July 2013
The long awaited third alpha has been released!. It includes all kinds of improvements and bugfixes but also introduces message walls with support for themes/styling (functional with 3 basic themes for now), avatar support for both chat and the message walls (functional with Gravatar support!) and contact management (functional..mostly).
As with all alpha releases expect issues with new features.. and with some of the established features... and remember some functionally is not yet in place, if in doubt, ask : ).
